I have been with Ospina Medical, a regenerative medicine and interventional orthopedic pain management practice based in Manhattan, for the past two and a half years. My current, full-time position comprises two distinct roles that each allow me to uniquely apply my biotechnology background to a clinical setting for the betterment of our patients. These roles are Medical Writing Program Manager and Regenerative Medicine and Anesthesia Technician.

Medical Writing Program Manager

  • Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the medical writing program and manage a team of 13 medical writers

    • Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new medical writers

    • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to junior writers as needed

  • Responsibilities

    • Curate and produce regular content for the practice’s medical blog by writing articles and editing submissions of junior-writers

    • Monitor content for originality, accuracy, and cohesiveness with other publications to uphold Ospina’s standards of integrity and quality

    • Manage the practice’s social media and in-office displays by producing educational yet aesthetic content

    • I began my time at Ospina Medical as a medical writer and quickly rose to my current management position.

    • My restructuring efforts successfully increased the credibility of the medical writing program, and improved engagement metrics, website traffic, and return on effort (ROE) for medical writers.

Anesthesia Technician

  • Responsibilities

    • Obtain consent, prepare, and position patients for minimally-invasive procedures that may require sedation

    • Perform venipuncture for IV placement

    • Prepare and administer intravenous sedation medication, under the anesthesiologist’s supervision

    • Assist in procedures while operating live medical imaging equipment and procedural devices

    • Support providers in expanding the practice's range of therapies by conducting literature reviews and developing treatment plans for patients who require specialized medical care

  • Responsibilities

    • Conduct patient intakes for medical histories, preliminary pain evaluations, and completion of medical notes per insurance guidelines.

    • Maintain updated electronic medical records and collaborate with medical facilities for referrals, diagnostic imaging, test results, and medical reports

    • Schedule patient appointments and manage administrative tasks, including insurance verification, pre-authorization, and billing code entry

    • Instruct patients on post-procedural care and restrictions

    • Facilitate dispensation of non-controlled substances on behalf of providers

    • Sterilize and maintain medical equipment using Autoclave

In addition to my time at Ospina Medical, I have gained valuable research experience as a two-time summer intern in the Applied Microbioengineering Laboratory at NYU. Furthermore, I honed my laboratory upkeep and solution preparation skills during a year-long work-study as a Laboratory Support Aide for the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department at NYU.
